0x80070005 Outlook 2003, error on sending

I have just bought a new laptop with Vista. I have set up Outlook 2003 and
it has been fine for 24 hours, and even today with sending mail. I now am
receiving the following message:
Task 'name.name - Sending' reported error (0x80070057) : 'Could not complete
the operation. One or more parameter values are not valid.'
I have reset email accounts and sent a test message with no problems byt
still cannot send emails from my outbox. I seem to be receiving messages OK.
I have not been able to find any support on this error.

You indicate two different error messages regarding sending, one in the
subject and one in the body of your email. Are you receiving one or both
errors?

The one in the body of the text is the one that I receive. I have now tried
a system restore no effect, and have been advised to set up a new user and
delete the old one - but that means losing all the set up I did yesterday!
I am now trying to uninstall and reinstall office - I am very frustrated!

Recreating your Outlook profile doesn't mean you'll lose your emails. Read
here on how to do it:

http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/newprofile.htm

However, before going that route I would want to ask you a few questions
such as:

Is your antivirus configured to actively scan incoming and outgoing email?
If this is the case, disable that feature. It won't compromise your security
since your real time AV scanner will catch anything it's been updated for.

Do you have any Add Ins or COMs that integrate with Outlook? Disable them
all, then add them back one at a time but test send/receive inbetween each to
see if one of them caused the problem.

You could also try logging the SMTP conversation to see what's going on
behind the
scenes. Take a look at this article for info on logging:

I have Norton Anti Virus as part of the BT Yahoo internet security package.
I think it is configured to scan in and out going emails but I cannot quickly
find the place to disable. I will look at to see.

I do not knowingly have any add ins or COMS - I have literally just set up
the laptop having bought it on Saturday. How can I disable them if they are
there?

I will look at the article, otherwise I wil ltry to set up a new profile.
The route I was sent was to create a new windows user which meant resetting
up all the files / my documents / favourites and all etc I had set up
yesterday. It does not sound as if that is necessary from the route you have
directed me ot.

I hope that you can help me get sorted as I am supposed to be on holiday!

Thanks for your help,

CDM

Hi Kathleen

I found add ins and coms and stopped them. I also stopped email scanning,
but the problem persisted. I then recreated a profile following your notes
and seem to have got it working - although I am not convinced it will keep
that way! I have also deleted the old profile - I have ended up with more
than one data file, but I have transferred the few emails I had received into
the new file and closed the extra one.

Thank you for the help. I would like if possible to understand why I have
had such a challenge with a new laptop! I am a long term user of Office and
have never had such a problem before! Is it Vista?

I thought I had it worted, and having started to send a few meeting requests
from calendar, I am now getting the error message again. Any ideas?

The usual suspect is security software. Check your services to see if there's
a Norton email scanning service and stop the service. Try sending/receiving
again. If that allows it, then disable the service. If not, you may have to
uninstall, reinstall Norton and omit configuring the integration with
Outlook.

Even uninstalling Norton may not be enough, check the Symantec site since
they will have further information on how to do this. A regular uninstall
doesn't always work the way you think it *should* when it comes to antivirus.

Also, make sure your firewall specifically allows outlook.exe.

PS Creating a new Windows profile is a pretty drastic solution and rarely
resolves issues with Outlook.
