0x0000008E Stop Error

Michael Harris

I keep getting this stop error while working in
application software. I recently upgraded to XP Home
Edition from Windows 98. The error screen does not stay
up long enough for me to get the entire error message,
but I have seen win32k.sys mentioned. When the error
occurs my system immediately goes into reboot. The only
other symptom I can offer is that this error seems to
occur while scrolling viewed pages if using either the
scroll bar or the scroll wheel on my mouse.

I don't know if this is related but I also get
application failure messages in such as "Internet
Explorer has encountered a problem and must close." This
happens with all running programs.

Both problems are intermittent and I have tried but
failed to create situations to cause failure with any
consistancy to see if I could recognize a pattern.

Any help out there?? Thanks

You need to make sure that all your hardware is 100% compatible with Windows
XP, and that includes using Windows XP drivers.
