0x00000071 error

Bill H.

On XP home:

Ran chkdsk and upon shutdown (to do the chkdsk) got a stop error:

0x00000071 (0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000)

Now, can't restart in normal mode, nor in safe mode. The same error keeps
coming up

I did find one thing in the KB that said to install sp2, but I'm pretty sure
sp2 is already installed, and anyway, how to install an SP if the computer
won't boot into windows?

A couple of days ago we went to windows update, and just a few non-critical
updates were listed, which futher supports that sp2 is installed.

Thanks.

ps. NAV is set to full system scan daily, and no viruses have been
reported.

Do you have any system disks?

I sure hope so!
Instead of safe mode have you tried the other options on that menu?
Not yet. Will be going there today

What was the last hardware change and when?

Probably not for months, if not years. I don't recall any (internal)
hardware being added to the factory model

Hope this helps.
