My computer froze today. On restarting, as soon as the loading Windows XP (home edition) screen came up, it would reboot with the option to use safe mode, etc. I tried each option of safe mode and last good configuration, but all caused a reboot. I tried the Windows XP disk in the CD-ROM drive. I hit "R" for recovery console, and get this error: stop 0x00000024 (0x001902FA, 0xF89B5814, 0xF89B5514, 0xF815ABBA). ntfs.sys - address F815ABBA base at F814E000, DateStamp 3d6de5cl. I chatted with Microsoft support, and they ran me through the stuff I already did and had no solution (said to take it to the shop). Any ideas? Any way to get a boot disk for XP that will allow me to run checkdisk? Sounds like something's wrong with the file system, but I can't get to a DOS prompt or anything, so I can't try to fix it. Help!!

Hi

You access the Recovery Console with a set of floppy disks:

| Will,
| Thank you. The info you sent is helpful in understanding the problem,
but right now I can't try any oif the solutions. The setup cd will load
setup files, but as soon as an attempt is made to access the recovery
console, the error occurs and the computer stops. I need some way work
around that so I can get a DOS prompt. Starting from the CD doesn't totally
bypass the hard drive, and any attempt to access the hard drive cause the
stop message. What I think i need is some kind of utility that completely
runs from the CD and will allow me to fix the file system without crashing.
Does that sound like it makes sense?

Thanks. I wasn't able to get started that way either, so I took it to a repair shop. I appreciate your efforts to help.
