0 kb file, can't be deleted

I downloaded an attachment in to my temp folder. It showed up as two files
with the same name an no extensions. One file was 3000 kb and the other was
0 kb. I figured out that the file was suppose to have an eml extension.
When I added this to the 3000 kb file, I could read it and then delete it.
When I tried to do this to the 0 kb file I got a message "Cannot rename file:
cannot read from the source file or disk." I got the same message when I
tried to delete. I tried to quarantine the file through McAffee, but the
program said the file could not be found. At the command prompt the file
cannot be seen. I tried to delete the folder both in windows and at the
command prompt and this didn't work. I ran a chkdsk and no errors came up.
It seems like explorer is seeing a file that doesn't exist. Any ideas on how
I can remove this phantom file?

Right-click the drive icon in Explorer, and Properties, Tools tab, to use
"Error Checking" on the drive.

I did that and nothing changed. File still there showing 0 kb and can't be
deleted. Nor can the folder be deleted.

I could not delete the file in safe mode or even in safe mode in the command
prompt. I went to the web site you suggested and from the command prompt
deleted the folder with the command "rd /s" and it worked :)
Thanks Iceman you were a big help
