Win 98se, IE 6

Following the KB Article 261328 - "In c:\windows\system
Rename files schannel.dll, rsabase.dll and rsaenh.dll" -
schannel.dll not found.
Renamed other files as instructed. Attempt to run
ie6setup.exe (downloaded to desktop from ms.com) unable to
complete shows missing files, reinstall fails.
Ie6setup.exe attempts to download missing file thru open
web connection (AOL 7.0) FAILS. Attempt to repair ie6 in

Thanks for your help. Per your instructions went to
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers2.htm#secure_sites.
Attempted to run 501dom.exe - error "MS WIN High Encrypt
Pack: This pack requires IE 5.01, Win NT 4.0 SP6 install
cancelled. Went thru Cannot Install IE High Encrypt Pack -
this applies to IE 5.5 AND lower (I am running IE 6.0).
Issue here may be that Schannel.dll is not installed in my
Win 98se win\system. Closest relevent article on this page
is "....Registry Key damaged or invalid" which also
applies to IE 5.01 or lower. Requires using Reg Edit to
REMOVE schannel.dll which will auto rebuild on restart,
but no schannel is installed. RECOMMENDATIONS APPRECIATED,
THANKS. RJS

Did you recently upgrade to IE6-SP1? Did you upgrade via Windows Update or
from a download page? Did you use the AOL browser (AOL toolbars showing at
top of page) or the "pure" IE browser (click on the blue " e " icon) to
download it? Was your antivirus application disabled during the
download/install? Were all other running applications (e.g., other IE or
AOL windows) closed during the download/install?

Q261328 states you must "Start>Folder Options>View>Advanced settings>Show
all files (check) and Hide file extensions... (uncheck)>OK" in order to be
able to search for [WinKey+F] and find Schannel.dll, Rsabase.dll, and
Rsaenh.dll files (if present). Did you? cf

Cannot Install the Internet Explorer High Encryption Pack
(Error message: This package requires Internet Explorer 5.01 or Windows NT
4.0 with Service Pack 6 or higher. Installation cancelled. Cause: This
behavior can occur if the Schannel.dll file is damaged or the version is
incorrect.)
