SP2 upgrade fails to complete

I've tried this upgrade several times, via download(IE
windows update or AutoUpdate) or CD, and the process fails
at the same point no matter what. The install message box
has gone thru most of the install script and gets to the
point of updating the registry. It then displays "Running
processes after install", the HD binks a couple of times
and then nothing. I've let the process run for hours and
eventually have to reboot and backout the install. I've
turned off all programs, shut off my firewall and
antivirus, done a disk cleanup and defrag. Nothing seems
to help. Does anyone know of a log file I could at to try
and see what the problem is or why it fails?? After a
dozen attempts, it's getting me frustrated.

At least you're not alone. See
