Half Life: Alyx Announced

Half Life: Alyx Announced

The Half Life series has been one of the most popular gaming franchises of all time, however the story ended abruptly nearly 12 years ago with Half Life 2: Episide 2. Fans have been clamouring for Half Life 3 for years, with an endless supply of memes, false starts and April fools jokes about the game.

However, there is finally some good news... Valve have announced Half Life: Alyx, one of their flagship VR games. Given the gravity gun mechanics of the previous games and the Valve VR headset, it's no surprise that this pairing could be a match made in heaven.

We'll find out more on Thursday, but it is certainly official as the official Valve twitter account have released this:

ArsTechnica have a bit of leaked information on the game, which suggests we're looking at a March 2020 release date and that it may actually be a prequel to HL:2 (unsurprisingly playing as one of the main characters, Alyx):

The game's name confirms what has been loudly rumored for months: that you will play this game from the perspective of Alyx Vance, a character introduced in 2004's Half-Life 2. Instead of stepping forward in time, HLA will rewind to the period between the first two mainline Half-Life games.

For those who have lost track of the series' timeline, the original 1998 game saw the Black Mesa research institute loose an alien race (the Combine) onto our planet. The sequel picked up an uncertain number of years later, with a network of researchers and resistance fighters working to take out the Combine's invasion and domination of Earth, in spite of a human-fronted organization that capitulated to the Combine's control.

Are you looking forward to this game? Would you be tempted to buy a VR kit if this was the only way to play it?
