ZA VSMON appears to hang on Win95 reinstall

Since format and reinstall of Win95b, I get to a blank desktop (no icons)
with just a mouse pointer. The machine sits there for approximately 2
minutes with no disk activity and then the rest of the desktop loads
normally. If I try accessing the task manager during this time it shows
"Vsmon (Not Responding)". If I end the task I get a message about ZoneAlarm
not being able to initialize the TrueVector Internet monitor. If I remove
ZA from the start up StartUp Programs so it doesn't start, the problem
remains the same. Once everything does load up, I don't see Vsmon in the
Close Program Dialog box but everything seems to be working. I do see a
"minilog" from ZA in the Close Program Dialog box that I don't recall seeing
before. Tried shutting off the logging function in ZA but still there.
Any suggestions? What was supposed to be a simple reload hasn't turned out
that way.

Other than the basic windows install and update of audio, video, and modem
drivers, I've added the Dun1.3 upgrade, winsock 2 upgrade, Y2K upgrade for
Windows, Y2k for Dun & winsock, and IE 5.5 SP2 although perhaps not in the
proper order. Also installed Zone Alarm v 2.1.44 and AVG 6.0.698, both of
which I understood to be compatible with WIN95

In Win98, this happens when you have a network card in the computer, but
didn't assign a fixed IP number, so that on startup, Windows is looking
for a DCHP server to tell it the IP number it is supposed to adopt, and
if there is no information after a timeout of two minutes, it will
choose a number itself, instead.

I don't know if the same can happen to Windows 95, though.

ZA v2.1.25 does work on W95 (I don't know about 2.1.44).

If Gabriele's suggestion doesn't help, try uninstalling ZA
and installing its ver.2.6.88. There might be newer versions but
2.6.88 does work well on W95
