Outlook 2000 shutdown problems

I purchased a box version of Office 2003 to upgrade my PC. I have an old
Exchange 5.5 server and found the Office 2003 version had trouble staying
connected with it. I decided to unistall the Office 2003 and reinstall my
old Office 2000. Everything is working great but now my Outlook hangs on
exit. I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del to close. I can't seem to find any fix for
this.

Thanks

Did you create a new mail profile? See if something here helps:

I deal with this all the time. Try this:

Do a search on the local drive for outcmd.dat. Rename this to
outcmd.old.
Search for extend.dat, rename to extend.old.
Search for views.dat and if it exists (usually not), rename to
views.old.

Then, as an added measure, search for outlook.exe. Create a shortcut
to this file on the desktop, right-click and go into Properties, and
add /cleanfreebusy at the end of the target line. For example:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OUTLOOK.EXE" /cleanfreebusy

Double-click on this icon, let it fully load up, then exit. Then open
Outlook as normal. Voila. No more hanging on exit.

Computer Bob,

As Brian suggested, creating a new mail profile will probably help. Make
sure to delete any existing .ost files on your machine if you use offline
files. Also, double check and make sure that all current patches are
installed for Office as well as for Windows.

On a side note, I've seen Outlook 2003 work well with Exchange 5.5 in quite
a few environments. Did you have both items patched fully?

Kind Regards,
