Your Favorite Little-Known Freeware?

I'd just like to ask anyone to post the names of their favorite
little-known freeware programs. Please list as many or as few as you'd
like, and no need to have links to download sites: we can probably find
those easily enough.

Thank you in advance for your help!

I will hold off on my favorites for now until others have had a chance
to contribute.

Thanks again!

I shoukda' book marked the site to place here since it is rather buried
amongst similarly named programs:

Spry ImageView

A handy dandy nifty keen itty bitty picture manipulating thingy. Crop,
brighten, darken, change format, etc. Works great for basic photo
manipulations. Intuitive, easy to learn and free. Works on Win98, don't know
about XP.

ECCO. It's abandonware.

This is a Personal Information Manager that was the reviewed as the best
in its class -- it has a devoted following. I've used it nicely on
Windows 98se and Windows Me. I understand that it runs well on XP.

Development by Netmanage mysteriously halted before Windows 98. Despite
success, the publisher hung it out to dry and that was that. The
corporate behavior was almost bizarre, but they may have shelved it due
to some unusual contractual constraints relative to the purchase. It can
be downloaded free from the Netmanage web site.

The main functions are the usual: calendar, notepads, phonebook. It's
almost infinitely customizable; everything can be turned into an
outline. It even makes GANTT charts. It can be interfaced with certain
Palm-system palmtops, although there is a custom routine to make this
work properly. I'm using it improperly with my Handspring Visor Deluxe;
and it's working fine.

I've been using this for almost 10 years, and I still don't know all the
bells and whistles. Printer control is strange, but persistance makes
settings work out.

This is a large program with extensive capabilities. Try it; you'll be
blown away. You can also download the manual off the web site; it's
about 200 pages or so. Sorry; I don't have the exact link at my
fingertips. You can download it from the Netmanage web site, although
you'll probably need the URL in advance.

I googled, but could not find this.
Spry Image View is a viewing/drawing/painting program. It is very similar to many other minor programming attempts such as Microsoft's Draw/Paint programs.
System requirements: 386 CPU, 4Megs of RAM, Windows 3.1 or 3.11 and at least a 9600 bps modem.

From the dead spry.com who made SPRY Mosaic (I used that browser once
upon a time!)

Maybe you could make it available for download?

NETMANAGE has decided to open source ECCO. The ECCO community is
awaiting the 'delivery' of the source code - due any time. The ECCO
group at Yahoo is quite active and a good source of support for those
new (and not so new) to the program.

SmartFTP is a wonderful FTP program. Though free, it does toss up a
nag screen after awhile. But this can easily be dispelled with any

OK, maybe not my favourite, but it is little known and very useful on
odd occasions:

PathCopy - Path Copy is a shell extension for Windows that enables to
copy the path of a file or directory to the Clipboard. You can then
paste the path in to your document, e-mail, etc. You copy the path of a
file or directory by right-clicking it in the Windows Explorer and
choosing Copy Path from the context menu. The context menu then offers
nine standard ways of copying the path, in addition to the user defined
copying methods that you create yourself: - Short Name: File/folder name
converted to 8.3 characters - Long Name: File/folder name - Short
Folder: Parent folder name converted to 8.3 characters - Long Folder:
Parent folder name - Short Path: Full path name converted to 8.3

Hi Richard:

I see from the website http://www.eccorocks.com/ that the program has
some impressive features. They recommend this download site:

ftp://ftp.netmanage.com/support/pub/utilities/EC401/Ecco32/

I may give it a test drive as soon as I get a chance.

If you try it, how about posting a report? That would be interesting.

It would be hard to get any freeware past this community.
