XP won't shutdown

I just reinstalled XP and installed all the Windows
updates, updated video drivers and chipset drivers.
Everything was working great until I hooked up my Epson
scanner (Perfection 1250) and printer (Stylus Photo
785EPX). Now it won't shutdown. It gets to the point that
says "It's now safe to turn off your computer". I looked
for the power settings but my APM tab is now gone. The
BIOS is still set with ACPI as enabled.

Any idea's will help,
