XP Will not shut down

Nicola

Hi
I have just rebuilt my (packard bell) pc back to it's
factory settings with windows xp. I have also downloaded
SP1 and the latest microsoft updates. When I try to
shutdown it seems to just hang, it will not respond to
CTRL, ALT DEL. This happens without having any
applications open. It also seems to freeze after I leave
it alone for a while. Does anyone have any suggestions of
what to do or where I can get futher info.
Thanks

run chkdsk /f from the run command.

also disable start up programs by typing 'msconfig' in the run command. from
the start up tab, disable (uncheck) all those programs that are loading at
start up. leave your firewall and anti virus though. see if this helps.
