XP USB printer

I cannot install a USB printer on an XP-SP2 desktop. The driver installs
fine; I connect the printer and get the "new device found .." notifcation;
then after 30 seconds, he says USB device failure. In the list of USB
hardware its displays as "Unkown device". The USB ports on the PC are all
ok, and this printer works fine on a 2K machine. Any ideas would be
appreciated.

How and when do you connect the printer to the USB? You normally need to
start the driver install process and only connect the printer when the
installer asks to to connect the printer.
