Periodic message that pops up - Re: my USB device

Hello,

I have Windows XP, SP 3. On occasion the following message appears: "This
USB device can perform faster if you connect it a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port.
Click here for a list of available ports."

Once I click on the link, the following appears: "The hubs shown in Bold
Type have free ports that can support the Hi-Speed USB device"

Recommendation: "Disconnect the USB Composite device from its current port
and then connect it to one of the ports on a hub shown in bold type"

USB Root Hub (8 ports)

When I open it I get a list of available unused ports, including Linksys
Wireless -G USB Network Adapter.

Under Recommendation I don't understand what I'm supposed to do: Disconnect
the USB Composite device from its current port and then connect it to one of
the ports on a hub shown in bold type.

Please advise.

Access the Device Manager and under the Universal Serial Bus section,
you need to locate a "Enhanced" controller. If you do not see one,
then you PC does not have a USB 2.0 controller and you will need to
continue to "ignore" this pop-up message.

Your PC must have a USB 2.0 (Enhanced) controller in order for the
Windows to use the USB 2.0 devices correctly. Eventhough you might
have USB 2.0 hubs, you still require the controller.

hello,

I went to device manager and under the Universal Bus Section I have a
Standard Enhanced PCI To USB Host Controller along with 4 Intel USB
Universal Host Controllers. Then there are the hubs. I am assuming I don't
have the enhanced controller. Am i correct?

Thank you.

It sure seems that be! You should see an "Enhanced Host Controller"
listed in order for PC to correctly use USB 2.0 correctly.
