XP Update KB920872

System has told me 6 times to install this update. I do so, reboot, and soon
get the message again. How can I stop this?

Also, LavasoftAdaware tells me I have a harmful registry key, which I have
also deleted several times. Wonder if the 2 problems are related.

Registery key is:
HKEY-USERS:S-1-5-21-83952215-1965331169-18016744531-1005\software\Microsoft\Windows Current Version\ext\stats\(72267f6a-a6f9-11d0-b94-00c04fb67863)\

Thank you for whatever advice you can give me.

You might want to post your question about the update to the experts in
the Windows Update newsgroup at

Just delete everything from this folder:

C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution

This should clear any false messages re auto-updates etc.

You might need to go into safe mode by rebooting the system and pressing
F8 key.

I noticed in the c:windows\softwaredistribution directory, the log indicated
this fix was scheduled to be installed tomorrow at a specific time, I don't
remember exactly when, but it was something like 3am. I will wait till then
and see if the problem goes away after that time.

How does MS expect to fix problems when they make it almost impossible to
report them?

In the directory C:\windows\softwaredistribution, the file
reportingevents.log contained the following (for each of the several installs
of this fix performed)

AutomaticUpdates Success Content Install Installation Ready: The following
updates are downloaded and ready for installation. This computer is currently
scheduled to install these updates on Friday, September 15, 2006 at 3:00 AM:
- Update for Windows XP (KB920872)

After this time, my machine apparently rebooted several times and the
install request shield doesn't return. Don't know why it decided to schedule
this install for a later date.
