hey
i know this has been asked several times on here but the threads i've read
never seem to end in a resolution that can assist me..

im running xp home on a pc and trying to connect wirelessly to airport
extreme base station. i am connected to the base station, but it keeps giving
me a 169.254.233.57 or whatever ip address. the other odd thing is the subnet
mask is 255.255.0.0 instead of 255.255.255.0 as it is on the mac that i am
writing this from.

when i do ipconfig, i get the bad ip address, the bad subnet mask, but
blanks for dns suffix and default gateway. i dont know if this matters..

help!

Does the airport do DHCP? The error you are getting means that Windows
expects to get its IP address from a DCHP server but isn't finding one.
If the airport doesn't have the option to do DCHP (unlikely), you can
try setting XP's IP address manually to the correct network address for
the airport; i.e., if the airport is 192.168.1.1, then assign Windows
192.168.1.xx (some number). The subnet will then be correct. Put the
airport's IP address in as the gateway.
