XP SP3 - details ?

"Cleaning up " one of my XP PC's and wondering - is SP3 "officially
released " ? I've got a LOT of stuff in add/remove - under updates for XP
and was thinking - maybe update and get that to one line:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...ad-bc34-40be-8d85-6bb4f56f5110&DisplayLang=en
I went online (Google,Msft) to see what exactly will be included when I
install SP3 since I purposely skipped a lot of updates. I'm still on IE6,
and also didn't have a need for a lot of the optional 'windowsupdates'
that it WAS gonna push to me, so I unchecked them. It seems from reading
that I'll get " all of the stuff that I had not installed" anyway, but can
still stay at IE6.

Anyone installed it ? If so, could you tell me please :
How big a download ? Does it check to see
what I have first ? or when I run it ?
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...ad-bc34-40be-8d85-6bb4f56f5110&DisplayLang=en
shows file-size 1mb ??!!!
I assume that's the INSTALLER ? is it interactive or can I download and
Save it to disk - to run later or a differnet PC ?

If we assume that I HAD installed ALL updates listed at "windowsupdate"
and I then installed SP3, would I have anything different on my PC ? Or
would it just remove all of the old KBuninstall folders / info from
add/remove and replace it with one line in add/remove ?

Thanks

You do NOT get IE7
You do not get Windows Media player 11
You do not get anything other than updates to the OS and one or two extra
bits for the OS.
No, it is not ready yet(non beta)
SP3 would uninstall any service pack alread found on your pc.
No installer, it will be on the update site.

No, SP3 has not been released yet. In any case it does not include the
bundled programs like WMP or IE. The bundled programs have their own
updates and service packs. SP3 is not a new copy of the OS.

Why are you "suggesting" not to get IE7, WMP 11 or the other extras?

R

Ridge Runner

Exactly.........
see what Colin said regarding the same.
SP3 is not about and never was about adding"extras"like IE, MP, OE or
whatever.
If it aint there right now (in your Windows XP),then it aint gonna be added
just by installin XP SP3.
You aint gonna see any speed increase, faster XP or any other difference
just by havin XP SP3.

Colin Barnhorst

Actually there is a speed increase with SP3. The release candidate 2
refresh is in the range of 5% to 10% faster.

C

Colin Barnhorst

I see it. Most of the testers who commented in the beta ng said so. I
recall an online review that said so.

They removed the beta and rc designations from that a couple of months ago,
but the Download Details site where you can download the SP itself still
says "Release Candidate Refresh."

Nevertheless, WinXP SP3 is still in beta (Release Candidate; Refresh
version).
