I'm kind of surprised there hasn't been any discussion of the pros
and cons. I just discovered a few moments ago that there even *is* an
SP3, through the link that Gerry posted:

I wonder if it comes with all that Windows Genuine Advantage baggage.

That link is NOT for sp3...it's just for downloading the data sheet.

Anyway, even if you do find the sp3 beta out there...you might as well be
patient
as the final version will be released soon enough...

I would not fool around with any beta software!

Did you actually look at the web page the link goes to?

And Shenan it is still subject to revision.

I skimmed it hastily, but set it aside for later reading in detail.
Frankly, I was hoping that folks who know more about XP than I do
would have some comments.

Sorry, what point are you making with that quote?

For most of us, possibly all of us, nothing exciting. Of course if
someone, when it is available, buys Windows XP with SP3 incorporated it
will simplify installation because there will be a lot less to update as
all the post SP2 updates will be on the CD, or more correctly most of
them will be.

Hope this helps.

That's because the official beta testers have their own private
newsgroups....

SP3 is NOT available yet! If you try that link, you'll
see. There ARE some BETAs floating around, but unless
you know what BETA software is, do not use it. BETA is
software that's "almost done" and bugs are still quite
possible. The purpose of BETA runs are to FIND bugs in
actual use of the program; much better to just wait for
the actual release; it'll have enough bugs in it, let
alone the BETA.

Of course it comes with WGA "baggage"; anything with XP
does, since XP is the determining part. It might be
easy to bypass, but it's still there and always will be
for XP et al.
