XP SP3 Corrupted??

T

TheWeave

I get a script error every time I try to start a program (HP Director). I
have tried all of the suggested fixes to this program with no results. I am
thinking about uninstalling SP3 and then reinstalling it. Before I do this I
thought I would ask if there are any pitfalls here and if there are any
suggestions.
Thanks
Ron

Hi Ron,
Can you let us know the exact Verbatim of the error you get and is it a new
one ie gave you been able to access the HP Director before?
Here are some ifno and solutions

Found on another forum, there is a workaround until HP issues a fix:

Click (or double-click) on the Director Icon like you normally do to run
it... the program is starting, but hiding.

After a second or two, hit <ALT><Space> on the keyboard. That will "pop-up"
a dialog box... click "Minimize" (may have to click it twice). You will then
see the Director icon appear in the taskbar. Click the taskbar Director
button and the program will then come up and work normally.
</Q>

For Jscript Errors, you might look through the suggestions on this web site:
http://search.microsoft.com/results.aspx?mkt=en-US&setlang=en-US&q=javascript+errors

Try these first though.

Repair Scripting Engine install:

Click, Start, Run, type

Regsvr32 vbscript.dll

Click OK

Click Start, Run, type

Regsvr32 jscript.dll

Click OK

Thanks Elmo,
Both of the codes you gave me were successful, but I still have the problem.
I get a script error 146 char5 and script error 99 Char5 when trying to start
the program.
Thanks again.

Hi nass,
Thanks for your response. When I startup HP Director a script error pops up:
Line 146 Char 5 followed by another script error: line 99 Char 5. I tried the
work around and got a blank HP Director screen. I have tried all of HPs fixes
including the ie7 patch. Nothing works. This had been working fine until I
Uninstalled/installed the software to fix a USB communication problem. Now
the scanner works, but not HP Director.
Thanks

Hi PA Bear
HP no longer supports my scanner (HP Scanjet 3970). I have been all over
their sight and the internet trying different fixes. None have worked yet. I
know there must something. I have been using this with IE7 since it (IE7)
came out. I have deleted the software from the registry, including all
Hewlett Packard and HP, uninstalled the software, deleted the Hewlett Packard
folders from Program Files, reinstalled the software, and still had the
problem. I also installed the IE7 patch for the software. I have also tried
all the things suggested on this board. I really appreciate everyones input.
I don't plan to give up on this.
Thanks
Ron

Hi nass
I checked out the links you sent. Already been there, done that. I
downloaded Windows Script 5.6, ran regsvr32 /i shell32 , and sfc /scannow.
Unfortunately that didn't work. If you think of anything else let me know.
Thanks for your time and input.

Why did you begin a new thread 2 days later?

Looks like you have 2 choices: Disable HP Director or go shopping for a new
scanner.
