I just installed SP3 and I am getting this error. I tried this fix,
but it didn't work for me.

http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/generic-host-process-error-in-winxp-sp3-310506.html

After applying this "fix" I rebooted the machine and didn't even use
it. After about 20 min the error popped up again.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to stop this error.

I was actually getting this error before installing SP3 but it only
happened once a week or so. It happens now every 20 min.

The reason I installed SP3 was because I wanted to take a computer
course and I needed to install this:
https://class.coursera.org/gameprogramming-001/wiki/view?page=SettingUpYourDevelopmentEnvironment
Microsoft Visual C# 2010 Express and Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack

Any suggestions on how to stop this?
Thanks

For some reason, TDSSKiller was on the list to be run for cleanup.
I didn't know this error was associated with TDSS.

Another one here. The OP in this case, checks Event Viewer
for some reason. And some error in there, cinches the diagnosis.

Things like TDSS, take over files like atapi.sys (part of your disk drivers).
And there was at least one case, where a Microsoft update (quite possibly, on
purpose) bricked computers that were infected with TDSS. Perhaps your installation
of SP3, tickled enough files to have upset TDSS in some way.

I don't really think the evidence collected so far, is enough
to conclude anything. And I'm presenting these links, mainly
out of a sense of surprise.

Thanks for the suggestion. I should mention that I have F Secure
installed. It reports a worm called W32/downloadaup.as. Every day it
reports this worm and every day it reports it has found it and cleaned
it. There is even a special file on F Secure's web site for this
worm. I have downloaded the support file and ran it.

It still shows this worm.

How will something like TDSS Killer work if I already have virus
software installed?

TDSS Killer found nothing.

It's a specific cure from Kaspersky. It looks for signs
of the rootkit, and then attempts to cure it.

You might be able to find a removal tool for Downadup.

http://www.bitdefender.com/VIRUS-1000462-en--Win32-Worm-Downadup-Gen.html

Since Downadup is a worm, if you have two computers and you disinfect one,
the other computer can reinfect it via RPC (remote procedure call). What you
might try doing, is unplug the two computers from the switch/router, and run the
removal tool on each. When they're each clean, plug back in and retest.

If all the computers are wireless, then maybe it'll mean turning off
the WiFi router for a moment, while disinfecting.
