XP SP2 Re-activation after install

After installing SP2 XP decided that I had a major hardware change (I have
installed a PCI modem since last activation) so I had to re-activate. When I
tried it told me that I had activated too many times (once). I rang the
activation line and it could not validate my ID so I had to speak to someone.
They only needed the first block of 6 numbers to give me a valid activation
code. I am impressed with the help from the activation line once I got to
speak to someone but why do you need to key in 8 or 9 blocks of 6 numbers
when a real person only asked me for the first one and why did I have to
re-activate in the first place.

Probably because real people respond to cursing, and voicemail doesn't.

If you think that activation is a PITA, try "Trusted Computing"
