repeated activation requests after SP2

I upgraded to XP Home a couple of years ago. I have anti-
spyware software installed. After installing SP2 I am
continually reminded to activate Windows. I have re-
activated several times. Is it possible the anti-spyware
is blocking the activation? -- also posted to security

Possible Resolution:

Boot into "Safe Mode" by pressing (F8) during a reboot.

Go to Start > Run and type: regsvr32 regwizc.dll , and hit enter.
Then go again to Start > Run and type: regsvr32 licdll.dll , and hit enter again.

Apparently, and I can't say how, the above files became unregistered.

"I have anti-spyware software installed. After installing
SP2...."

Did you turn off the anti-spyware program during SP2
install??

If not you may have damaged your windows installation
entirely.

"CLOSE ALL OPEN PROGRAMS" - it should be stated directly
that this includes Antivirus, spywares, firewalls, any
program that is running in the background that is not part
of the operating system.

you may not have a problem by leaving these programs
running while your installing the service pack but,.....
WHY TAKE THE CHANCE?

This only works if the user also physically pulls the cable from the
internet connection. There are far too many reports of infections
during the short period that users do a windows resinstall when no
protection is in place.

I tried this. The response I get to regsvr32 regwizc.dll is an error
message that says "Can't Find File regsvr32 Return 0X80040154." I searched
my hard drive and there are two copies of regsvr32.exe. One in C:\Windows
\system32 and one in C:\Windows\ServicePack...

Hi Carey,

I have a similar problem. When you say unregistered, do you mean unsigned?
I just ran sigverif and the list includes those two .dlls and a couple of
thousand others that are not signed...

Thanks.
