repeated request for activation

I upgraded to XP Home a couple of years ago. I have anti-
spyware software installed. After installing SP2 I am
continually reminded to activate Windows. I have re-
activated several times. Is it possible the anti-spyware
is blocking the activation?

Possible Resolution:

Boot into "Safe Mode" by pressing (F8) during a reboot.

Go to Start > Run and type: regsvr32 regwizc.dll , and hit enter.
Then go again to Start > Run and type: regsvr32 licdll.dll , and hit enter again.

Apparently, and I can't say how, the above files became unregistered.

I had the same problem with a customers computer a few weeks ago. In the end
I ran the file and transfer settings wizard on the affected computer (After I
had activated windows over the phone for the 50th time) for each
logon/profile. Then I re-installed Windows XP and chose to delete the
exsisting windows folder and contents. Then use the file and settings wizard
after you have re-installed windows and your applications first. then
activate and it should work, if not and you still get the activation process
after every reboot then try checking the cmos battery on your motherboard as
this can cause the clock/date to screw up the activation process.

Check out the following articles for reference on re-installation.

It is quite possible that the anti-spyware deleted certain WPA registry keys.
You might want to try use some other software. I have used LavaSoft's
Ad-Aware SE and I have never had any problems with activation. I don't think
anti-spyware can block activation requests either.

Thanks!

I just spent half a day Googling, MSing, and networking and every reference
except yours was useless, several saying that it could not be done. The dll
re-reging you specified worked like a dream. Thanks, thanks, thanks!

I am having the same problem as discussed here except each time I click OK to
activate, it says windows is already activated and shuts down. I went to
regedit and did all the things I was advised but when it got down to finding
the "resets" to delete it, it was NOT there! Please, please someone help. I

Thanking you in advance!
