WinXP Re-Activation Problem

M

mahmgb

The only piece of hardware that changed was my DVD-ROM
because my old one had been dead for a while. Now every
time I boot, WinXP tells me I have to re-activate. I click
yes to do the activation online, but apparently it does
not do the re-activation.

I don't even get a blank screen. I cannot even open the
Windows Product Activation Wizard manually.

If someone can help me out with this issue, I'd really
appreciate it. It is so frustrating and I only have 2.5
days left of the 3 days Windows XP gave me to re-activate
it. I can't live without the use of my computer.

Thanks.

Start|Run|Type %systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a |Press OK

Activate over the internet if possible. Otherwise, select your country, jot
down the phone number and activate by telephone.

I installed some additional memory and it requested a activation. I choose
yes from the screen that appeared and choose activation without registration
and went through in a flash. Surprise it wanted activation because I just
added additional memory.

I have tried to activate over the phone but Microsoft
cannot help me. I cannot get the Windows Activation Wizard
to open in order to enter the telephone activation codes
into it. MS suggested that I re-install WinXP and try to
register again. That is too much of a hassle because of
all the custom settings and changes that I will need to do
all over again in windows.

I'm having the same problem, I added some memory and XP wants me to re-
activate. Fine with me, except the activation screen is just a nice
blue background without any text!! I've followed the suggestions in
Q314935, up to the point of repairing the XP installation, with no luck.
I would like to avoid re-installing. I had to find the phone number
online (since there's no text in my window) and I hope that will take
care this.

Hmmm.... I can't activate by phone, since you need to see the
information in the window, which I can't see!

Don't you just love using copy-protected products?

It might help. Good Luck, and remember this eXPerience the next time
someone wants to sell you a copy-protected product.

It may well be that the two dll files have become unregistered (there
are some third party programs do this on install).

Start - Run the two lines
regsvr32 licdll.dll
regsvr32 regwizc.dll

and try again
BTW Adding Memory would only cause a need to re-activate if you have
already done several other hardware changes so that this one pushed
things over the edge

Thanks, Alex... Tried your suggestions, still same screen: nice blue
background with the keys, but no text! : (
