There is a shortcut on the desktop to a network folder containing numerous
Word documents. The user is accustomed to right-clicking the shortcut,
choosing Search, and using the Search Assistant to locate a document by
searching for a string. All of a sudden, the dialogue portion of the Search
Assistant screen's left pane is missing. The only object in the left pane is
the dog, which will scratch itself when clicked on. Nothing we do will bring
back the search options or the "You rang?" dialogue. A newly created
shortcut exhibits the same behavior. Double-clicking the shortcut opens the
folder and displays the documents. Any idea how to get the search options to
re-appear?
