XP Professional Upgrade stuck in loop

B

Bill Fraser

I'm trying to upgrade XP Home SP1 to XP Professional on a
Compaq presario 3000 laptop. The loop occurs near the end
of the device installation sequence, after the "Install
SiS M650" alert boxes - then it reboots from the Upgrade
CD with the message, "Setup is being restarted". The lopp
begins again ("Setup will complete in approx 39
minutes", "Installing Devices"). There is no way to stop
the lopping. When it gives an option to quit Setup (F3),
it re-enters the loop.

Then I pressed Esc during the SiS install, it seemed to
continue OK, but again went into loop. "Setup has already
attempted to upgrade the following Windows installation".
I pressed F3 twice to quit, and Enter to reboot. Began
loop again - "Setup is being restarted".

Any suggestions?

Thanks -- Bill Fraser

I don't have any ideas, but I don't like Microsoft's
upgrades. You're better off with a fresh installation of
XP Pro.
