There are other ways too, like using a boot manager (
http://www.bootitng.com ), but for a hardware based solution that's
brain-dead easy to implement, this will work nicely. The only caveat is
that when one HD is "active", the other is NOT. So if you want/need to
share partitions *across* HDs, you'll need a software based boot manager.
It can get tricky supporting multiple OSs on multiple HDs. It's best that
you ONLY specify primary partitions on the first HD, and extended partitions
(w/ volumes) on subsequent HDs. If you allow primaries on subsequent HDs,
you take the risk of drive letter assignments changing on the first HD
should the second HD be removed, changed, or various partitions hidden in
the boot management process. Add to this the fact that Win98, being
DOS-based, insists on loading as C: *and* from the first HD, and well, let's
put it this way, if you want to make this as simple as possible, consider
the Trios hardware solution and avoiding use of both HDs at the same time
(perhaps shifting the data partitions around, if possible), or perhaps
introducing a third HD just for shared data (extended w/ volumes, not
primaries). This is VERY effect w/ the Trios since the third HD can be
shared. It's also better to keep OS's and DATA separate anyway, just as a
matter of good procedure.
