XP Pro Academic version?

Vicki

Is there any difference between the full retail and the
academic version? I definitely qualify for the
academic...but dont want it if it doesnt come with ALL of
the same features...

Thanks in advance...Vicki

The only differences are the price and the terms of the license.
Functionally, they're the same.

Hi Bruce...thanks for your reply...

I understand what you mean about the price
difference...but what do you mean, "terms of license"?

Thanks again...Vicki

Essentially, you can only use the Academic license while you're a
student or faculty. Once you graduate or drop-out of a qualifying
accredited educational facility, your license expires. If you're
faculty, the license expires if your employment at a qualifying
accredited educational facility ends.

Bruce,
Are you saying that once you are no longer a student, that to remain "legal"
you have to delete whatever Student version you have and go out and buy the
full version ? It makes sense kinda, but also seems a little unfair having
to pay twice. Yikes after my Univ. days, I would not have been able to
afford DOS, it all went into Student loans !
Thanks
Tedd

OK thanks alot Bruce, a new piece of info that I had not even thought about.
Would this also apply to MSDN subscriptions if you do not have MSDN anymore
?

Hi

From "MSDN Subscriptions General Q&A" at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/subscriptions/faq/default.asp

<quote>

they still valid?

MSDN Subscriptions have a perpetual license, so subscribers can still
use the products received with their MSDN Subscription after their
subscription has expired.

Same system, under more restrictive license terms (to you only, while
you continue to have the student status)

I think in more practical terms it means it will die with the machine it
is installed on - which is likely to be getting into obsolescence pretty
soon after the course ends

HA.
At the rate I went thru graduate courses, it would be dead and we would be
up to at least Windows 2010 :)
