xp not reading photo cd - please help!

Am reposting my original message from Sept 13 - have not
seen a reply - wondering if anyone has this problem and
how they fixed it???

I have backed up my photos to cd (also tried cd-rw) and
would like to delete them from my hard-drive, but I am
hesitant because when I put the CD in to view them it
seems to lock up and will not read. There are no error
messages that appear, but the following things
happen :The disc label does not appear in Windows
Explorer, the contents of the disc will not display in
Windows Explorer, when I insert the disk in the drive or
read a disc, the computer stops responding. Sometimes
reads the first time I put it in the drive, but once it
stops reading it will not go again on subsequent tries.

I have used several different disks and run into this
problem it seems with all of them at some point - like I
said, I can access the cd at least once or twice, but
then it starts to get stubborn and lock up. I haven't
actually tried accessing any other disks that contain
data as the only thing I have on disk is pictures or
actual programs, and the programs install just fine.

==================================
If you have two CD drives, try the disk in both.

If you continue to have problems with the disk
and your other disks can be accessed successfully,
there's a good chance that you have a bad CD.

Try a different disk or maybe even a different brand.
