Andy,
While I'm not a linuxoid (although I do have a partition of it), humor
was really all that anyone could get out of this thread. Other than
personal desire, Frank never offered any real purpose for switching over
to Vista. It wasn't a hardware decision that prompted the OS change,
nor software, nor productivity. It was only a post to pat himself on
the back. Some people need that I guess. Especially if one believes
they've really accomplished something.
I've used DOS, DesqView, Windows 3 on up, so I'm quite familiar with all
of the OS's.
Yes, "sooner or later" Windows users will most likely move to Vista.
That choice won't necessarily be their own, but MS's. First they'll
stop allowing XP to be sold on machines, and the timeline will fade from
there. But for most, there isn't any reason to move from XP to Vista,
as there isn't the benefits there were from Win9x to XP (W2K being more
of a business model lacking extensive driver support). But by then
linux and OSX (or OSXI) will be better also, and many may choose a
different direction.
And nobody will really be asking Frank anything, because he won't answer
more than one question at a time...
Prediction: IF MS removes the DRM and ineffective piracy program, Vienna
may do well and I may even buy a copy. Vista is obviously the Win Me of
NT, released as a beta on the guinea pigs that are having all kinds of
problems with it. Once its been beta tested on the public, Vienna will
be ready to roll, just like XP was with Windows Me.
This is assuming, of course, that the paying public doesn't get wise to
the MS scam. If the paying public gets wise, it will be the end of the
de facto monopoly so it's a good thing you have Linux as it's the future.
