XP Low Disk Space keeps showing up yet plenty of free space left

Jim

I'm running XP Professional and have recently been getting
the XP Low Disk Space utility showing up in the system
tray. I have two internal drives and one external drive
but they all have over a few gigabytes of space left
according to properties.

Anybody know what might be going on or what to do about it?

Hello Jim,

The message should give you a drive letter, so that is the one we should be
looking at. If you open My Computer and view the properties on the drive
indicated in the message, specifically how much space does it say you have
and what is the total size of the drive? If it does say you have over
200mb free, then you should not receive this message and I would recommend
you Defragment this disk. It is also possible it is misreporting because
you have a corrupted Master File Table. So, you would also want to run
Chkdsk on that drive.

But how do I turn disk space checking of for a single partition, while keeping it for the other partitions?
