On my laptop I have Windows XP Prof copy. This is the company copy. Right
now I dont work for that company and I have brought my own OEM copy of
Windows XP Prof SP2. Now, I dont want to reconfigure my whole laptop by
wiping out the OS and reinstalling the new OS from the new CD. Is there
anyway that I can use my new OEM edition and register/activate with my own
key so that the copy is legal and own it.

Can somebody guide me.

Thanks

edit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\WPAEvents
-> OOBETimer with regedit , change at least one of the hex numbers.
Close regedit, call %systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a and klick
I want to telephone a customer service ... and then reactivate your XP
with your new key. !Make it on your own risk! NO WARRANTY!

BTW: it's not working with my XP ;-) see 2 thread above. My WinXP
restores product key, I don't know why. But hundreds of threads in
internet say it should work ....

Thanks Carey. It looks that I can either do repair install or inplace
upgrade.

I hope I dont have to reinstall all the drivers for my devices.

Cheers !

I just moved a bunch of machines from Action Pack XP Prof + SP2 + All
updates to OEM XP Prof + SP2. The above change did not work, it kept
stating This installation is already activated. Changing the key did
nothing.

I just did a repair/reinstall, took 40 minutes, as I had to uninstall
Office 2003 Prof from the AP and install Office 2003 Basic also.
