Hello,

I;m writing to you regarding an issue with an Windows XP Professional License.
I recently bought an older laptop (second hand) “Compaq Evo n400c†(it from
a local hardware store. They said the laptop has a license for WinXp
Professional. Indeed on the laptop, near the keyboard there is a WinXp
Sticker and on the back of the laptop there is another sticker that contain a
WinXp serial number(I suppose the laptop was bougth with a copy of WinXp pro
that was bond to it).

When I bought the laptop there was no OS installed. The local hardware
company claim they imported their goods from USA, etc. I suppose the WinXP
license serial number that there is on the back of the laptop is bond only
for this machine. Is there anyway i can get a copy of WinXp professional
that can be used on my laptop (offcourse, using the serial number that i have
on the back of the Compaq laptop)

If you have any other solution please let me know!

Best regards,

You got ripped off. If you can, take the laptop back and get your money
back.

Whoever sells you a PC, even if it is used, is obligated to provide you
the means to install the licensed operating system. According to this
page

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/10844_div/10844_div.html

"Each unit [Compaq Evo n400c] is shipped with a CD kit for quick
recovery (erases hard disk and restores manufacturer installed image)
and software recovery (installs only selected standard software)."

The local hardware company should have included the accompanying
recovery CD.

If I were you, I would demand they provide this CD. If they don't have
it, tell them they can order one from this site:
