XP Home Upgrade

I was hoping for some feedback on a setup blocking issue I've encountered
during a XP Home upgrade from Windows ME...I encounter Microsoft Shared Fax
Client as a blocking issue and need some assistance to get past this.

I've removed fax programs, scanner programs, but can't to unblock setup so
it can continue.

Any ideas out there? Is this something I can bypass, if so any ideas?

thanks in advance to all

Hi The_Rockman,

Do a Find/Search for a file called fxsclnt.exe and delete that file (I can't
recall whether it's a hidden file or not, so set your Folder Options to be
able to view hidden files and folders). Once the file has been deleted, try
running the upgrade again.

Hi Patti, thank you very much for the reply.

There is no such file on the PC. Is it possible that there is a registry key
causing this?

Another piece of information has come to light. Apparently this PC was
upgraded from Win 98 to Win ME and now attempting upgrade to Win XP Home.

Any other suggestions?

Only other thing that comes to mind, seeing as the computer previously had
WIN98 installed, is to remove the Microsoft Fax and Windows Messaging
components if they were installed. Have a look at the "How to Remove
Microsoft Fax and Windows Messaging Components" section within this MSKB
article:

How to Reinstall Microsoft Fax and Windows Messaging

Thank you Patti, it worked, we found the fxsclnt.exe file after an intial
search error, (wrong directory ) we located it and deleted it and setup got
past the blocking issue.

We are also able to examine the report in the upgrade.html file, this proved
to be very helpful.

We are so looking forward to our new XP.

I can't thank you enough, we were about to give up.

You're very welcome, The_Rockman, and I hope you enjoy your XP "experience"
:)
I know that I had no desire to return to WIN98 or WINME after installing XP.

Lookin'' to send a fax from Windows XP Pro, but there's a problem. Windows
XP Pro was set up on my computer when I bought it, so I don't have the
install disk. Is there any way to obtain the necessary software?
