XP Freezes every few minutes

Has anybody out there experience this problem with windows
XP that for no set reason I have found suddely freezes the
computer. Freezes the screen, and stops all network
connectivity.

On pressing ctrl-alt-del after a minute it comes back to
life and everything is normal. But 2-5 mins later to does
exactly the same thing.

Rebooting the machine will cause the computer to behave
ok, until some mysterious event causes the PC to start
doing it again.

I've no idea how to fix this at all, and it's causing
major irritation.

Eliminate viruses, spyware and malware as possible culprits. Unplug the
network cable. Follow the instructions for performing a clean boot.

Hi Simon,

Suggestions:

You can use Event Viewer to view and manage the event logs, gather
information about hardware and software problems, and monitor Windows
security events.

To view the event log: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or
Start/Run/eventvwr.

To review Shutdown Event Tracker data, Open Event Viewer. Click System Log,
scroll to the Event column, and find entries with the number 1075.

And also:

Go to Start/Run/Msinfo32/Hardware Resources, Components/Problem Devices and
Software Environment/Windows Error Reporting.

Go to Help and Support/Pick a Task (left side)/Use Tools to view.../(left
pane)My Computer Information/(right pane)View the status of my system
hardware and software/Hardware/Update and Troubleshooters.

Try running the DirectX Tool: Start/Run/Dxdiag, Lower Hardware Acceleration
(Display/Settings/Advanced/Troubleshoot/Hardware Acceleration).

Good luck!
