XP device manager freezes when installing usb device

I am trying to install a usb device for blackberry storm. I have figured out
how to do manually it through device manager using the "pick the device"
approach. The bottom line is that with everything set up for the install, I
press "next" and it brings up the appropriate animated page showing a file
floating from one folder to the other (the driver is supposedly being
installed into the system32 driver folder) but the animated files keep
floating, the dotted horizontal bar line immediately fills up and the whole
thing just keeps churnings slowly and the installnever completes. The page
is not frozen, as my cursor still moves, although everything is sluggish.
When I bring up The Task Manager it shows the device as "running." The
animated files keep floating for hours and never finishes.. How can I
complete this install? task. I feel I am only inches away. thanks.

Well even if xp was to install it,it would fall back to microsoft drivers
from 01..Youre best bet,go to the chipset mfg home page (intel, amd, etc),
download & install the chipset installation utility for youre board, this
conf-
igures XP & USB + installs current drivers/software.
