XP critical update and EMF file problems

This morning I downloaded 5 or 6 critical updates for Windows XP, and
now Word and Power Point won't display EMF pictures made by Adobe
Illustrator. Also the Windows Picture and Fax viewer won't open Adobe
Illustrator made EMF files, but it will open EMF files made by a
different program, MATLAB.

Say, John, no help here except I believe I'm a relative from the east
coast (son of Sally and Joe, brother Pete and sister Susan).

Could you look at my XP question about i8042prt posted today?

BTW the e-mail listed is not correct...

I've had the same problem... EMF pictures that were working aren't any
more. I can't say for certain that it is the result of the XP updates
but I'm suspecting so.

Here are some additional details about my specific situation - I
wonder if they are the same as yours?
* windows picture and fax viewer says "Drawing, please wait" and then
"Drawing failed"
* running office detect and repair procedure doesn't help
* NOT all EMFs are affected... depending on what program produced them
originally. However, the files haven't changed and were working
before.
* the emf pictures inserted into word show up as a blank with the
dreaded red x in the top corner, and the text "Adobe Systems" (these
were created with Adobe Illustrator)

I had the same issue with one of my xp machines. It seemed to be due
to hotfix Q835732. I uninstalled the hotfix and it worked fine.
