XP closing down takes ages suddenly

XP closing down takes ages suddenly.

I had

- some MS security updates,

- McAfee update,

- did a re-install of new version Audigy install CD (after having removed
all previous Creative trash), which by the way cured all my sound related
issues.

But what could be causing this Windows close down problem all at a sudden?

Take a look in the Event Viewer. Could be some process is not honoring
the request for it to unload and eventually errors which might show up
in an event log.

Thanks for the link. But I get the feeling this is a little above my head,
I'm not a programmer.
However I installed UPHClean, and after this some errors in the application
log seem to be replaced by UPHClean entries. Details below. But the bad news
is that shutting down Windows is STILL wretched slow :-((

A little Googling on "DLLML.exe" reveals it is a Creative (soundblaster) kind of file.

"RCSystem"="C:\Program Files\Creative\Shared Files\Module Loader\DLLML.exe" [2005-06-16 19:25 49152]
"AudioDrvEmulator"="C:\Program Files\Creative\Shared Files\Module Loader\DLLML.exe" [2005-06-16 19:25 49152]

The events.asp link presumably is taking you to a page where you can look up
more info on Event numbers. I bet there is probably a better way to do that
using some other resource.

So at least the log, is pointing to the problem being with the Creative file.
The Creative file may be keeping the registry open for those HKCU (HKey Current User)
entries. This is a long shot, but maybe it makes a difference what user installs
the Creative driver ?

I'm happy to report that I have now been able to solve the Windows closing
down problem!

In Process Explorer I found DLLML.exe and a link to a problem file forum.
There I learned the issue was linked to only one of the programs of the
Audigy CD, namely 'Entertainment Centre'. This may sound big, but actually I
can do well without it as it is some infrared remote control (which I don't
have for the PC).
So I selectively uninstalled 'Entertainment Centre' by the book, and after a
reboot DLLML.exe seems gone from Process Explorer. Now Windows runs like a
charm again and closes down instantaneously!
Thanks again for pointing me to UPHClean. It is stil there...
