XP CD's with corrupted files?

I had to reinstall XP recently and ran into a lot of difficulty when the
installer gets to the section where it's copying files from the CD onto the
hard drive. For some reason, I was forced to skip several of the files as
they couldn't be copied from the CD. It's a mystery to me as to why. I
swapped CD burners with two others that I knew to be in good working order,
and there were still certain files that wouldn't copy. I even swapped out
one XP cd for another one and that actually worked in getting most, but not
all, of the files to copy onto the hard drive. Any idea why the XP cd's are
showing up with bad sections? I looked them over and even cleaned one with
a CD cleaner, but the same files wouldn't copy which I thought was also odd.

So if it's not the CD ROM drive and *two* CD's are coming up with the same
files that won't copy, what could be the cause? BTW, these are XP original
CDs, one XP Home SP 2 and another an XP Home upgrade- not copies.

My only thought is that it had something to do with the Dell P4's internal
hardware (communication problems between the CD Rom and motherboard
perhaps?) as one of these XP CD's installed perfectly on an older HP
Pavilion a few weeks ago, and it isn't a P4!

Thanks, in advance, for any reasons.

The question has to be asked - how did you do that. I am sure you did not format
the drive first. Some files left on the drive which cannot be overwritten?
Most likely trouble.
