Can't copy images to CD's

K

Keith Tinlin

Hi all, I have a recent problem and seek help, please

My computer has Windows XP Home Edition installed, and a DVD/CD-ROM drive
fitted: with it, I can play and record DVD's, and can play recorded music
on CD's, via Windows Media Player.

However, I am unable to copy image files (.jpg etc.) onto CD's, and that is
my problem.

When I have attempted to make copies in recent days, I am continually
confronted with a box titled Problem Copying coming on screen and noting
that:

"Windows encountered a problem when trying to copy this file.

What do you want Windows to do (retry, skip or cancel?)"

In a different approach, I attempt to use the CD Writing Wizard (the wizard
that helps one write files to a CD recording drive), but after a few moments
of attempted processing, the following comes on screen:

"CD Writing Wizard

Cannot complete to the CD Writing Wizard.

There was an error in the writing process."

The problem appears to be software. Any suggestions, please?

Sorry, you cannot just copy to a CD like you can to a hard drive or a USB memory
stick. There are two ways to do it and both require a program like Nero or Roxio
to do it. With either program you can copy a bulk of data to a CD or a DVD and
that is the normal way to do it.

If you only have small items to store frequently you can copy those to CD and
keep copying day after day until the CD is full. However you need a part of the
program which on Roxio is called 'Drag to Disk' and on Nero, I think is called
'InCD'. These are not compatible so if you have used to format with one, as you
need to do, then you must keep using that one for writing. If you have a CD/RW
then you can also delete with that program.

A memory stick I have has room for 2 GB of storage and if you get one of those
or even a 500Mb you can reasonably safely use one of those. That makes copying a
lot easier.

Hi Borge,

Your comments are helpful and much appreciated. Thanks. I do have Nero
installed and so will travel that path...with fingers crossed:)).

If your image files are in your pictures folder, then go to media center and
open it then create a cd/dvd and it should formatt etc. and burn or rip them
from there.
