XP 3000+ on A7N8X-X thinks it is a 1800+?

To get the Memory Frequency to sync (100%) you have to set System
Performance to User Defined. Also change Memory Timing to User Defined
also, which will allow you to relax the timings.

Tried this and got way further into bootup before locking up, so I
think this is on the right track...

Hi,
I've been following this thread for a while.......
Are you SURE you got the PC-3200 memory? Was it on the outside of the box,
or on the chips itself? I guess what I'm trying to say is did you get what
you paid for? Is it the "good stuff" or the plain vanilla Kingston? I'm not
real fond of Kingston memory, I had some of the plain vanilla kind and it
was SSSLLLOOOOOOWWWW in fact when I got my 2500+ Barton and the same board
you have I had all kinds of problems until I got some really good memory.
I personally, would RMA that memory and spend the extra bucks to get
Corsair, it's a known good performer on this type board. I myself found a
good deal on some memory at Komusa, they have an excellent reseller rating
from resellerratings.com. It's PC-3500 with copper heatsinks, and works
great at 200MHz FSB, it should actually run a little faster but I got it
just for the overhead room, just in case it was not quite as fast as
advertised.

But in the mean time, what I did to get my 2500+ to run at 3200+ was run the
memory at a lower speed, in other words a percentage of the FSB, it did work
that way. You might try that just to get the proc. to the correct speed.
Just a my 2 cents worth, for what it's worth.

Hmm - It's Kingston "ValueRAM" - damn.. I guess that is crap huh? So I
can set the RAM to maybe like 66% speed and it would work?

It should work that way. This way you can run the memory at a slower speed,
and rule out everything else.
Here is the link to the memory I bought and it works beautifully at 200 MHz
FSB

This is a 1 gig kit but they have others if you don't want or need 1 gig, I
just think that if you are going to have a screamer, then you need the
memory.....just personal opinion, and it sounds like you want, or need, a
fast machine. ( I don't work for them, just a satisfied customer) and they
do take pride in their products!
They have been badgering me to leave positive feedback on several sites and
I don't think they would do this if they sold crap.....as I said they have a
great rep on resellerratings.com.
You should be able to get that chip to 3200+ easily! and maybe more (with
the right ram)
let me know if I can help.
You can email me directly at johna at almand dot net if you want,
Good luck and let me know how it turns out.

Did you get it to clock to 3000+?
I am curious,
Thanks
Bitsbucket

I just got to try setting the RAM down a bit (to 66%) and that works..
now my AMD is running full speed at 3000mhz.. it seems like it's going
to be stable at this.. thank you very much for your help, and for the
suggestion.

Hi,
You could now increase the ram speed in small increments until it becomes
unstable and then just back it down a notch or 2. That way you can get all
it's capable of doing, even if it will not do the advertised speed it will
probably go a little faster.........but sometimes stability is more
important than squeaking out the last bit of speed. I been there too, you
get to a point where all you want is a stable machine.
Gald I could help.....
