XBM format images don't work in WinXP SP2

Hello,

I have ran into a serious problem with Service Pack 2 for WinXP. After
installing it ALL XBM format images no longer show up in Internet Explorer.
They worked fine before SP2 was installed. They also work fine in other
browsers. This troubles me as my site uses these images extensively and now
it appears that a large portion of people who visit won't be able to view the
images. Is there any setting that might need to be changed to make them work
again?

Here is a sample image I found that works fine on one of my PC with WinXp
SP1 but does not work on another PC that has SP2.

I've also noticed this problem. Looking at the version numbers of IE -

Works: 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633
Doesn't Work: 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158

I've also noticed that it doesn't matter whether the XBM file is local or
remote, so I don't think it's a security zone issue. Firefox 0.9.3 displays
the XBM file correctly on the same computer.

Gameboy900,
I think Item #2 is causing your problem, since it seems new with SP2.

1. In OE> TOOLS> Options> Read tab> Uncheck Read Messages in plain Text.
2. In OE> TOOLS> Options> Security tab> Uncheck Block HTML images (new with SP2).
3. In OE> TOOLS> Options> Security tab> Uncheck Do Not Allow Attachments.

For more info on *.XBM file format.

That might work for Outlook Express but my problem is that it doesn't work in
Internet Explorer. I don't even have Outlook installed on that machine.
