wzcsvc service missing?!?!?

Kathryn

For reasons I'm not entirely clear on, the wzcsvc service
(wireless zero config) is missing from services on my
Sony Vaio. Winxp is oem on this machine. If I view
services in regedit it is there, but it does not show up
in the services portion of the computer management
console and it is not loading at startup. Consequently I
cannot configure any wireless network adapters, and I
cannot connect to my home network wirelessly. The
machine can connect to the internet just fine using the
internal nic card and an RJ-45.

Can anyone tell me how to re-enable wzcsvc? Do I use
regedit? Specific steps would be much appreciated. I do
NOT want to reimage this machine if I can avoid it.

Many thanks!

Greetings Kathryn,

Run regedit and find

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WZCSVC

Make sure there is a DWORD entry named "Start" and value "2".

Thank you Eric! There is not an entry as you described.
Do I just add it then?

Yes, Kathryn.

If it isn't listed in the Services then just add a DWORD entry named "Start"
and value "2".
