wupdater.exe

hope someone can help, whenever I go to shut down my
Windows XP I get a message that this "wupdater.exe" is
not responding. I'm not sure what this "wupdater" is or
what it does .... anyone know why? (virus?) Or what
this does? Or what I need to do? Just started happening
yesterday. Never had trouble before.
