WTF - new installation?

AVG AntiVirus Free Edition
Bad advice if this is to be used in a corporate environment.
Besides... AVG detection is very poor!

For private use only.

NAV detects nothing on my computer!

Did you check your configuration?
Have you tried to scan just 1 file?
Sounds like a corrupted install.
Try again.

Hi Max. I have removed NAV and re-installed - no difference.
I have removed firewall and re-installed NAV - no difference.
I have used GHOST.EXE to restore "first install" - NAV = no difference.
I have checked hidden files/directories attributes - no difference.
I have converted the drive to NTFS - no difference.
I have not yet given the laptop a flying lesson, but I am close :-(

More details please.
How is the HD partitioned?
How are the partitions formatted?
What size is the HD?

If the C drive is greater than 128GB is 48-bit LBA enabled?

Is this a custom built PC or bought from a retailer?

"Bought" laptop HP notepad - 550MHz, 256MHz RAM pentium processor.
Operating system is (legal/registered) Windoze XP (SP2) full install.
(used FDISK from Win98 start diskette to format HD)
HD is 17Gbytes FAT32 (have also tried NTFS - no difference)
Single partition for whole 17Gbytes.
No mods to computer.
Using internal mouse, keyboard sound, DVD-rom/floppy, etc.

Can stuff CRUZER Mico in USB port and scan that for viruses, including the
whole directory structure - can be seen on NAV opening SCAN window. Can
expand directories to "check" files or directories I want to check. Can NOT
do this with hard disk. All I see is "C: (Hairy)" and no directory
structure.

This may be a silly question; but you did install XP to the C:\ drive on
your system didn't you? Another problem could be if the drive is a
compressed drive, or a drive that has been PGP'ed or other wise encrypted

NOT a silly question, but yes I did install XP on the (only) hard disk - C:\
Drive is not compressed. Have tried both FAT32 and NTFS.

No it has definitely not been PGPed or otherwise encrypted.

Hi all,
New Windoze XP (SP2) installation.
Norton antivirus corporate edition cannot find anything in C: drive!
Completed:
Time: 09 seconds
Files: 0
Any ideas?
De-installed firewall - same
Re-installed NAV - same

What happens when you right-click on the Windows folder in the filemanager and
choose to NAV scan it from the context-sensitive menu? Nex
