wowexec.exe - something very strange going on

Every few days I'll hear the balloon.wav sound indicating System
Notification. I'm NOT running any 16 bit applications. when I check in
system processes, there is a new entry. It is for wowexec.exe with a
space in front of it. I found this entry for it -

"There are two types of this program. One is a vital system process, and
another is a hidden trojan, disguised as the usual process. You can
identify the trojan as it has a space before the name, which may be
because it is attaching itself to another process. I do not how to
remove this, as i have it myself, but i have managed to round up this
information from other websites."

Even stranger, the regular wowexec.exe is found in the Windows\system32
folder. I have that one. There is also one in the C:\i386 folder. When I
do a search, the the one in Windows\system32 is never listed in the
search results but I can find it in Windows Explorer. AVG anti-virus has
never found a virus.

Something is not right. Does anyone have any information on what this is
and how to remove it?

Thanks,
Jim
