work offline/try again message

I use a LAN connection and for a few weeks my computer
hasn't recognized when im online. I will hit a link and
the pop-up "work offline/try again" shows up. my
connection manager says im on line but i still have to
click try again constantly to get to web pages. this also
prohibits me from looking at film online in windows media
player and connecting in outlook to my mail server.

I have called my internet provider and they gave no help
at all. I also have repaired internet explorer which did
help once but the second time i did so, didnt work again.

what should i do?
