Just tried disabling Symantic. Didn't work.
I'm on a LAN network running on a T1, not DSL.
This really is a strange problem because, of our 2000 and
XP machines, only some are having problems and some are
not. For example, I have a 2000 machine and get the
message when I go to
www.msn.com, but my cube mate, who
also has 2000, doesn't get it. We both upgraded to IE 6
on the same day with the same build from our network.
Same thing with XP, some can go to EmployeeExpress.gov and
get the message and some do not.
We have not way of testing off the network since we can't
access the Internet with dial-up or modems, but I would
think if it was a network issue, then all of us would have
the same problem. For the hell of it, I did try switching
the computers to use a connection we knew wasn't getting
the message but that didn't work either.
I will post this to the PACBELL Forum today and see what I
can find there as well.
Thanks

Temporarily disable anti-virus application, firewall, and
any "system" tool (anything by Norton or McAfee). Are you
on a local network? ...using a router? Does the same
thing happen if you eliminate the network and/or router?
Does it only happen at
www.buy.com? Have you looked at
other suggestions in that FAQ? (Despite the name, the
site applies to DSL and cable.) Have you looked at the
Pacbell forum there for users with similar problems? Have
you posted your problem to the forum?

Help - I'm still having the same problem:
I've tried all the suggestions below:
1. Made sure LoadLCE and LoadSens were set to auto
2. Deleted Cookies, Files, and History under Internet
Options | General
3. Tried Repair in the Control Panel
4. I'm working on a LAN, not DSL.
5. Problem occurs in 2000 and XP
6. Disabled "Allow META REFRESH" under Internet Options |
Security
I still get the following message:
No connection to the Internet is currently available. To
view Internet content that has been saved on your
computer, click Work Offine.
Click Try Again to attenpt to connect.
If I click Try Again, it goes right through. Seems to
happen with the same site (i.e.,
www.buy.com).

Try
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/faq/5.+Troubleshooting
and posting to the forum there for Pacbell users:

active forum, BTW).
Have you installed any Pacbell software?

The LoadLCE edit went fine, but I can't get the LoadSens
to keep the edited string. It goes back to "yes" instead
of staying as "auto" after I have edited the string.

Did you remember to click "String"?
"In the right pane, click LoadLCE, and then on the Edit
menu, click String" The same applies to the loadsens
value.

This looks like the right site, but I'm having problems
with editing the registry on the value for LoadSens. I
keep changing it from "yes" to "auto" as instructed, but
it keeps going back to yes after I close the window. The
editing on LoadLCE went fine. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I need help! Every time I try to open a new window, I get
a message titled "Work Offline". It states that no
connection to the internet is currently available and to
click on the "Try Again" button to attempt to connect.
This works, but it causes problems with progams looking
for internet connections. Any help would be appreciated!!!
