"Work offline" disappears from menu File

Hello!

I have IE 6.0 SP2. Recently I have made my own simple start page with
favorite links, it locates in one folder in My Documents. I assigned this
page as the default page.

However, when I start IE, the "Work offline" item no longer exists in the
"File" menu. With default page in Internet or blank start page, it appears
again. I have concluded that "Work offline" automatically disappears for
locally stored pages, but when I start to browse the Net, this item doesn't
appear. It is shown only when I open a link in new IE window.

The worst is, if I switch to offline mode, close IE and start it again, I
can't normally switch back to online because of this issue. I have to start
Outlook Express and use its menu "Work offline" to force IE back online.

You could also load About:Blank.

<title>KB257693 - "Work Offline" Command Is Missing from the File Menu</title>

or add a toolbar button for Offline (originally one of the IE5 powertoys)

or download and install Inkswitch (freeware)

or write your own script to toggle GlobalUserOffline between 0 and 1
which is essentially all that the other options are doing.

Good luck
